E3 Preview: Disney Infinity

Posted on 23, Jul

Disney Infinity was one of the most most popular booths at this year’s E3. It could be that they were giving away T-shirts or the action figures you could use when the game launches but I have a hunch that people were also just curious to play it. Basically, Disney wants a piece of Activision’s Skylanders pie. As you probably know, in Skylanders you have action figures that you can level up in the game and you can bring them over to your friend’s house and play your characters there. It’s a really cool idea and it’s been uncontested for two years now. With recognizable brands and almost unlimited potential for new gameplay experiences, Disney could really give Skylanders a run for its (and your) money.

E3 Preview: Destiny

Without a doubt one of the biggest games of this year’s E3 was Destiny, the first new IP from Bungie in over a decade. None of us knew what to expect as we all waited in line to enter Bungie’s private theater. We were showered with swag such as T-shirts and stickers but the three hour wait still seemed like an eternity. Guess what? It was totally worth it. Bungie’s Destiny is going to blow our socks off when it gets released next year, and I for one can’t wait to start the adventure as soon as possible.

E3 Preview: Mario Kart 8

At this year’s E3 it was a struggle to even get inside the Nintendo booth. The lines were incredibly long, the floor space was overly crowded and you just couldn’t get from one game to another. Luckily, I got to play one of the Wii U’s biggest games, and that was Mario Kart 8. I’m a huge Mario Kart fan so I was pretty pumped to get some hands on time. Keep in mind, the build I played at E3 this year was very much a work in progres

E3 Preview: Beyond: Two Souls

When I was in the Sony booth, I got to check out one of their first party games: Beyond: Two Souls. I must admit, I haven’t really followed this title since it was announced last year. I’m a big fan of the creator’s previous game Heavy Rain, so this title was right up my alley. With great gameplay, sexy visuals and some of the best story telling in gaming, this is sure to be one of the best games to come out on the now elderly PlayStation 3.

With new systems come new controllers. We were first taken aback by the Nintendo’s introduction of the Wiimote. Stunned by Sony’s Eyetoy and played some really competitive matches on Kinect Sports. Though what the core gamers want is just your standard controller. We don’t need motion controls to play games; we demand that we have something in our hand with thumbsticks and triggers. There aren’t any Major League Gaming tournaments for Wii Sports, right?

E3 Preview: Forza 5

Posted on 14, Jun

I have no idea why I like the Forza franchise so much. I’m really not that into cars or manufacturers. I could care less if I’m driving a Geo Metro or an Enzo Ferrari but when I play a Forza game I’m all of a sudden a car nut. I was extremely pumped to play the next generation’s version, Forza 5. I waited in line at E3 for about an hour to check this one out and I’m happy to report that this game delivers. Racing fans and non-racing fans rejoice; this is a must have title for Xbox One’s launch this November.
