These are all tracks that are about, are featured in, or are inspired by my hobby of choice, video games! A couple of these songs have been in game trailers and cinematic intros. Others are from actual game play. Still others only hint at their video game related inspiration. See if you recognize any of them for yourself.

A great track by a fictional band featured in a movie based on a comic book, who’s name is a play on a cute but deadly Mario enemy.

Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked by Cage The Elephant
Featured in the intro to the game Borderlands, this track also broke into the Billboard Hot 100.

Mad World by Gary Jules with Michael Andrews
You may remember this one from the Gears of Wars commercials back in the day. You know, like forever ago.

Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! (That Cigarette) by Tex Williams
The often covered hit is one of the more playful selections on Rockstar’s L.A. Noire soundtrack.

Iron by Woodkid
Featured in the Assassin’s Creed: Revelations trailer shown at the title’s unveiling during the 2011 E3 convention. If you haven’t seen it yet, I encourage you to check it out immediately.

Atlas by Battles
This one comes from the PS3 game Little Big Planet. Also check out Battles’ new album Gloss Drop out now!

Threshold (8 bit) by Brian LeBarton
The Nintendo-fied version of the Sex Bob-Omb classic. A fitting end to both this playlist and the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World soundtrack.
